What comes first?

What comes First?

All too often when we have made the decision to redecorate the big question is what do I do first. Everyone has an idea of what they would like to do to change their living space but the series of events in going through the selection process may be a bit daunting.

If you are one of the lucky ones who will be changing the furnishings as well as the flooring and wall color there is an order to making this fun. (And this should be fun.)

The first order of business is to select your furnishings. You will be a bit more limited in the style, fabric, color and price range than with your other purchases. When shopping keep in mind the size of furniture that will fit comfortably in the room. Remember, that couch looks much smaller in that big, tall ceiling showroom than it will in your Living room.

Your next decision is the floorcovering. Ask all the questions and get all the answers you need to make a wise choice. Every home has different requirements. Whether you are a family of two people or you have four kids and a dog the performance level of the flooring is of utmost importance. The color co-ordination with your furniture should be fairly easy at that point.

Last but not least is the paint. This is the finishing touch on your project. By this time in the process it should not be difficult to make your selection. Pick out a few chips from your favorite paint brand and take them home. Make sure you have all your other samples to help. Do not make a decision until you have seen these colors at all times of the day.

This process should be an exciting and fun time. If you are agonizing about your decisions be sure to consult an Interior Designer or Decorator to simplify the experience.
